August 7, 2007: NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2007/BACK TO SCHOOL BASH
The Fort Dodge/Webster County Diversity Team, TARGET, and Upper Des Moines Opportunity are sponsoring an event called National Night Out 2007 that will be taking place on Tuesday, August 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the parking lot at Corpus Christi Church. National Night Out is an event designed to fight crime and drugs, promote safety and neighborhood unity, and enhance police-community partnerships. The purpose of the Back to School Bash event is to provide school supplies to families in need of assistance. Look for Drop Box locations to donate school supplies when shopping in local Fort Dodge stores. The Fort Dodge/Webster County Diversity Team, TARGET, Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Catholic Social Services, Community & Family Resources, DART, Douglas Dreamers 4-H Club, DSAOC, Head Start, New Covenant Church, Share, Boy Scouts, Child Care Resource & Referral, Salvation Army, MIRHA, Planned Parenthood, Young Mom’s & Dad’s group, Workforce Development, Positive Parenting Network, United Way of Greater Fort Dodge, Gerrard, Webster County Public Health, Webster County ISU Extension, Fort Dodge Police Department, The International Alliance of Guardian Angels , Webster County Law Enforcement, and the Public Safety committee of the City Council are all working together to coordinate this event. Additional businesses to help sponsor the event are still needed. If interested, please call 576-2201.
There will be FREE food, safety activities/demonstrations (fingerprinting, search and rescue dogs, etc), music, and fun. Tables will be set up displaying law enforcement and safety, health/wellness, schools/bullying, diversity appreciation, get to know your neighbor, overcoming stereotypes, working together to fight crime, drugs, emergency preparedness, etc. The website is www.nationalnightout.org. June 27, 2007:The Fort Dodge Chapter of the Guardian Angels has come far since it’s initial startup in April of 2007 and we continue to make progress by being involved with events and volunteering our services with other individuals and organizations that are community based . The first event that was attended by the Fort Dodge Chapter of the Guardian Angels was our annual "Frontier Days" in June. It was at the suggestion of Charles Clayton that we attend this event to get more public exposure and we quickly took him up on his offer and volunteered our services. The results of attending this event has led to numerous speaking engagements and good relations with other organizations .
Our next upcoming event is "National Night Out"
